Moccas
Hereford
Herefordshire
HR2 9LH
United Kingdom |
Moccas Court is not a hotel in the normal sense, but a Country House with luxury standards. It is in a class of its own, yet does not have Jacuzzis, spas and a restaurant in the normal sense. What it does offer is uncompromising quality of food and accommodation: Widely regarded as Herefordshire's finest Country house, it provides the ideal setting for a really rewarding, relaxing and refreshing stay. The history and the setting are today matched by a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere. The house itself might seem imposing at first, but stepping through the front door reveals an elegant family home of real intimacy and charm. Family portraits and beautiful furniture combine with tranquil vistas of some of the finest landscape in Britain, and grounds that were laid out by Capability Brown and Humphrey Repton. The accommodation consists of five generously-proportioned bedrooms, all decorated to the highest standard and provided with top-quality ensuite facilities. Furnishings are restrained, echoing the period and style of the house. The rooms all have extraordinary views over the grounds and the beautiful countryside surrounding the Court. Guests have the exclusive use of a private sitting room overlooking the gardens. They are also welcome to use the library and the other principal rooms of the house. Pre-dinner drinks will be offered by the owners, Ben and Mimi Chester-Master, in the elegant Library. Dinner itself will be served in the Round Room, designed by Robert Adam with its exquisite hand-painted wallpaper, lit by soft candlelight. The cuisine at Moccas emphasises quality, reflects the seasons, and is executed in a classical but unpretentious style home-grown vegetables, local venison and game, lamb and beef, and when available salmon from the river. Situated as it is in an area of extraordinary natural beauty, and so close to the Brecon Beacons National Park, guests will never be short of things to do. Equally, Moccas is a great place to relax and unwind for those that are feeling less energetic. Nowhere is more conducive to a rewarding stay and a good night's sleep.

Clustered close together on the side of the hill, the buildings of the hotel have been sympathetically rebuilt or extended to retain all their original character whilst offering even more spacious and comfortable accommodation. Two things that will never change are the panoramic views of the valley below and the uniquely warm welcome from the members of the family and their team. You'll be made to feel at home as soon as you step across the threshold of the main building, a fine Georgian Dower House once part of the Blackmore Park seat of Thomas Hornyold. The new bar and lounge area, with ample comfortable seating and lit in winter by a flickering log fire, is well stocked with cosmopolitan and sometime idiosyncratic selection of beers and spirits. Beyond is the piece de resistance, a spacious and elegant recently enlarged restaurant, where the delicious views through the tall windows are equalled only by the lofty reputation enjoyed by the cooking of the Chef Brigade, headed by another of the Pattin family, Dominic. Its style is feted by many many guide books and recognised by the award of excellent ratings, is essentially English but influenced by flavours from around the world. It is complemented by an extensive wine cellar where, among the more familiar labels, adventurous palates will discover vintages from distant corners of the new and old worlds, on a list which has won Johansens Wine list of the year and has been a regular finalist in the AA Wine list competition. The bedrooms in the main building, whilst not large, are individually designed with a country feel, and all those at the front have breathtaking views. If you fancy a little more peace and quiet then leave the main building behind and stay in either Beech Cottage or the Pinnacles rooms, which are larger and offer luxurious accommodation. Please note that the hotel has no lift.

All 10 of the recently refurbished bedrooms have been individually decorated with an abundance of personal touches and are complete with modern facilities, including colour video combi televisions and bathrooms that enjoy baths incorporating electric Miras showers. All bedrooms are non-smoking. For dining, guests can enjoy the cuisine of our 2 AA rosette restaurant.
