Amesbury
Wiltshire
SP4 7DR
United Kingdom

The Fairlawn Hotel is a grade 2 listed fine Georgian townhouse, conveniently situated in the small historical market town of Amesbury just off the A303. We are only about 40 miles from the lovely Roman city of Bath and about 60 miles from the outskirts of London, making Amesbury an ideal stopover for those travelling to the West Country, Devon and Cornwall. The house still retains many of the original features including a wonderful curved staircase and a rare internal wind vane. Over the last year the present owners have restored the house to some of its original glory and have completely refurbished the lounge and bar area, providing a beautiful and comfortable area for guests to relax in and browse through the library of guidebooks and local tourist information. All bedrooms are en-suite and have complimentary tea and coffee trays, colour TV, hairdryer and are comfortably furnished. The owners take care to provide a high level of cleanliness throughout the hotel. There is a unique feature dining room situated in the former wine cellar area, where the owners supply a healthy continental style breakfast, and for the more traditional, a freshly home-cooked English or Vegetarian breakfast cooked to your specific tastes. Our breakfasts are prepared using as much local produce as possible. We do not offer an evening meal but you will find a good selection of eateries within a short walk from the hotel and we can recommend some excellent country pubs a few miles away.

PERFECT. The bus stops outside, the train is 2 stops to Britain's favourite Heritage City and it's only 20 minutes if you should choose to drive. As it's on the London side of Bath, we are less than 2 hours from the capital. Being an old manor house and farm, the bedrooms, bar and restaurant are to be found in various different buildings. This is generally seen as part of the unique charm of the place. If you want a lodge style hotel with shiny facilities all in one building, a gym and the heavy hand of an interior designer, then you have picked the wrong place. The staff and even the slightly eccentric owner are very friendly and welcoming. All rooms are en suite, bursting with antiques and interesting pictures/bits and pieces. The antique beds, some of them 4 posters, have all been restored using the latest comfy modern mattresses. They are firm but not hard. Many guests have said they have never slept in more comfortable beds. We've just built a new conservatory and an old pub style bar, most of which was salvaged from one of Bath's top hotels when they went modern. The restaurant is noted for great food and proper fresh cooked breakfasts using local produce and free range eggs. It's not quite an ordinary hotel. REVIEWS FROM GUESTS: As you will see from the guest reviews on this site, we do pretty well but no one is perfect and not everyone 'gets' what we are trying to do. However, I am going to answer the few complaints if I can. 1. We no longer offer the smaller, cheaper rooms on this site but, there is a clue in our pricing structure that the more expensive the room, the bigger and better it is. 2. The hotel is rambling, you could call it 'disjointed' and yes you do have to go outside from some rooms to reach the bar and restaurant. The reception could be described as difficult to find but we do have a small sign. Most guests find us charming and quaint. 3.We try to be a bit laid back and relaxed. As a result we do not rush people from the dining room. Fast food is at McDonald's. 4. We have a new butcher and since Jan 06, a super new chef, hence, the recent good comments about the food. 5. You want a shower rather than a bath? Ring the hotel, tell reception on arrival or put it on the special request section when you book on this site.
