Italy occupies a Peninsula running southeast into the Mediterranean from the mainland of Europe. To the North of Italy are France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.

Italy boast the only active volcanoe i the mainland of Europe -Vesuvius. Mount Etna on the Isle of Sicily is one of the world's largest volcanoes.
